Human Puppets - T.V. Eye (5th Floor Ent.)

Remember the excellent 7 inch and LP from this Greek synth duo? Well... forget about those... this new 7 inch is even better... moving away from the obvious synth pop  / elektro pop sound and more into raw synth punk territory.  If this is the new sound of this duo I cannot wait for more new tracks... but for now this 7 inch will do perfectly. At this moment this is all the synth music you will need! A future classic!

Getrud Stein - Eat The Stone (Kernkrach)

A little while ago there was this 7 inch by Gertrud Stein in a limited edition of 100 copies. If you missed that one here is another change. There are new and different songs on this new 7 inch but the sound is the same and the style is the same. Minimalistic elektro / NDW tunes for the die hard fans of the genre. Nothing shocking new but nice and funny. The packaging is your typical Kernkrach type of thing.

Wermut - Ether
(Treue Um Treue Tonträger)

The new awaited Wermut album arrived at last and it has been worth the waiting for sure. Forgor about the elektro-wave / minimal elektro past and dive deep into the psychedelic present with Wermut's massive 'Ether'. You get a 2LP with 4 long tracks that take you on a journey no synth music lover can resist. Yes, there is some Wermut there in instrumentation and mood but the sound is tranquil but exciting and the songs are long but going into different territories. You will hear also some Klaus Schulze in here and some Hawkwind maybe... a superb record showing only again Wermut is not to be defined in any style or genre... A MUST HAVE!

Automelodi - Automelodi (Wierd)

After the self released cd EP here is the vinyl debut of this new project around former Echo Kitty and Arnaud Lazlaud frontman Xavier Paradis. Automelodi treats the listener to some chanson influenced poppy new wave songs that will soothe you and from time to time invite you to dance. Melancholy but never dark, playful but never slick... One of the more interesting new artists around in our little world... tip!

Solvent - Subject To Shift (Ghostly International)

This new Solvent album is a real feast for any lover of electronic music. The record kicks off with a massive smash hit in an acidic style and after that the albums goes through various moods, style characteristics and sounds... and still sounds cohesive. The title is so right. Solvent's music is subject to shift not subject to change. Moving away from the more obvious synth pop roots but still maintaining that special feeling, for a part thanks to the analogue machines used.  One of those records you need to have. Already a highlight for 2010!

Solvent - Loss For Words (Ghostly International)

The first single from the new album "Subject To Shift" (see above).  'Loss For Words' is a playfull synth pop tune with real hit potential. In a way it has this retro feeling but on the other hand
it sounds very fresh and contemporary.  On this 7 inch are two versions that do not appear on the album. A very nice little record to go with the album...

Skeppet / Street Drinkers - Split LP (Release The Bats)

Excellent split LP by these Swedish bands. Skeppet delivers two long psychedelic tracks with cheap synth drums / rhythms and spacey guitars and other noises to blow your mind. Perfect summer psychedelics! Street Drinkers serve you a bit darker sounds and moods but never crossing the line of become too dull dark ambient. Two trips on two sides of vinyl. For your the ET summer tip of 2010!

Scorpion Violente - Scorpion Violente 12" (Bruit Direct Disques)

Remember the debut 7 inch of this band (split with The Dreams) on Hex/Enfant Terrible? Now here is the follow up. A 12" EP with three tracks of electronic music that is as punk as electronic music can get! Minimalistic and rough synth punk in late 70's / early 80's style. Think ICK, Crash Course In Science but with a bit of a weird touch from time to time... Nice nice nice!

The Spectrometers - 1/2 Mechanism 1/2 Organism (Self released)

Amazing debut by this French minimal electronics / old style industrial / post-punk band. Haunting soundscapes with industrial touches of Throbbing Gristle, psychedelic elements of Silver Apples and some repetitions of Suicide. Stylish but unpolished... really a perfect blending of elements and styles... If you like Factums, Agent Side Grinder or Bronze you should not miss out on this one!

Lesbian Mouseclicks - Low Dig Recording Sessions (Wharf Records)

After years of producing music, performing live and contributing to compilations (on Das Drehmoment for example and very recently on Kamp Holland by Enfant Terrible) here is the debut EP of this Dutch elektro/new rave duo. The sound is a blending of electronic dance music styles:
retro 80's synthpop sound mixed with raw elektro tunes, some call it New Rave, and others Electropop. In short, not just one style and always adventurous.

Void Vision -  In 20 Years (Blind Prophet Records)

This is the debut release by USA based synth band Void Vision. In a way the sound of Void Vision is typical for the new American wave of synth acts like Martial Canterel and Xeno&Oaklander but due to a more poppy touch and some excellent song writing this band is able to set themselves apart. A very nice debut release for sure that will please both fans of more cold wave sounds as synthpop addicts.

The Phone  - Cabaret Noir (Attractive co-ordinates)

Here is the second 7 inch EP by The Phone from the UK. The first one was great (and sold fast here through the ET mailorder)... and this second is even better I think. Very catchy elektro pop is what is poured out over you. What makes this release so good is the rather raw and unpolished sound. The tracks have a pop thing going on but have kept the true character of analogue synths both in structure as in sounds. Not to be missed...

Cccandy - Lonesome Berlin (Avant! Records)

Debut album by this French synth punk band. This is yet another band from the exciting new French post-punk scene. If you like the electronics of Scorpion Violente, The Dreams and the raw punk attitude of Crash Normal, Cheveu and The Normals you will love this. Cccandy is probably the most electronic (next to Scorpion Violente) of the bunch and for sure the most accesible but they are far off centre of any regular pop sounds. If you are into unpolished, minimal and analogue electronic music this is a LP not to be missed.

Various Artists - Schadstoffklasse Grau
(Hertzschrittmacher/Kernkrach Schallplaten

Truly an excellent compilation with only contemporary and mostly unknown new acts. Deep and hypnotic minimal electronics... even spacey and almost psychedelic at times. The best thing about this record is that it does not aim at cheap dancefloor fillers but goes for nice listening music. For the fans of minimal electronics in its pure and raw form a must have! One of the best Kernkrach releases so far...

Narrow - From DIY With Love
(Treue Um Treue Tonträger)

After Fiendish Fib and Alone here is another discovery from the 1990's in the field of (minimal) electronics. Narrow from Croatia delivers minimal electronics as they should soon: the perfect mix of analogue elektro and experimental but rhythmic orientated old school industrial. Maybe most of the songs are more straight forward as Doxa Sinistra but I still think this will appeal to fans of that 1980's band. Also if you are into Esplendor Geometrico and Blackhouse for example you will love this.  A truly great discovery!

Ich Wollte, Ich Könnte - At The Gate (Treue Um Treue Tonträger)

After a long time a new sign of life from the Wermut side project Ich Wollte, Ich Könnte. The sound and songs are not surprising in anyway if you are familiair with the project but this does not mean it is not good. You get deep melancholy minimalistic elektro/synth music. Four tracks to get you all spiritual and tranquil. A must have for Wermut/IWIK fans!

Neurobit - Rhodos Spawned It All / You Definitely Failed! (Vatican Analog)

Vinyl debut by this Dutch artist. Neurobit creates excellent soundscapes with 8 bit sounds... mostly ambient orientated but the A side on this 8 inch vinyl is surprisingly more like lo-fi techno / raw synth pop like some of the Börft stuff.  The B side is ambient as Neurobit does it... chiptune driven and dreamy. Watch out for music of Neurobit on Enfant Terrible soon...

Sixth June - Everytime (No Emb Blanc / Genetic)

From Belgrade comes this new elektro wave band. This LP is their debut and a smashing first release. Some of the best new elektro wave I heard since some time... of course there are the 80's references but the band walks the thin line in between original and copy very well... always staying at the right side. Excellent melancholy stuff and recommended also to people who are more into the indie-tronics side of things. Big tip!

Frak - Sulky / Herkules (Djuring / Börft)

Frak is one of the key bands in the Swedish electronic scene. They have been releasing music and playing live since 1987 in a few different line-ups. Here is a 7 inch with two tracks from 2007/2008. This is like a lo-fi techno/proto techno style of music but done with a synthpop mindset . It will appeal to fans of Kord and Monster Apparat for sure. Something wild and weird you just need to love!

Cluster - Berlin 07 (Important Records)

Cluster is the legendary Kosmische Scene band featuring Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius. This cd is a recording of a concert in Berlin in 2007. Various Artists - Icy Breath On Burning Flesh... (Douche Froide)

For a long time the Douche Froide magazine has been writing about music that is forgotten or neglected by most magazines. Now it is time for a compilation cd (even though they already had some compilation cd's coming with the magazines)  with some excellent sounds not heard elsewhere mostly. You get 14 tracks that go from post-industrial muzak to minimal electronics and from weird pop back to ambient drones. Some featured artists are: Dark And Dusk Entwined, Beyond Sensory Experience, Hermann Kopp, Nihiltronix, Nature Morte and Ilitch. A great collection of music it is!!

Led Er Est - Dust On Common (Wierd)

Excellent debut album by this USA based group. Although this will please the fans of the more typical "minimal synth" style Led Er Est is going beyond this. Some tracks are real dancefloor fillers with elements of dance music styles with the touch of punk and new wave. The sound is raw but far away from noise and at the same time it is accessible but never too much pop orientated. Highly recommended!

Xeno & Oaklander - Sentinelle (Wierd)

This new album is a great improvement on the first album 'Vigils' which was quiet close in sound to Martial Canterel. This time you can of course still hear the musician of Martial Canterel is involved in this project but the music is a bit more melodic and a bit less harsh. Still the albums goes from more accessible pieces for the dancefloor to a bit more soundscape kind of poetic tracks. For fans of moody synth tunes not to be missed!

Zerkalo -  Stoi Storoni Zerkala - Part II (Clone)

Part two of the two releases untill now by this excellent project by Gerald Donald (also known as Heinrich Mueller from Drexciya, Arpanet, Der Zyklus, et cetera) and singer Victoria Lucas. Knowing where this comes from you will recognize the elektro sounds but this time it is spiced up with some real European dark wave influences. In a way like a more mechanical version of Portishead or an elektro version of Cranes. For fans of dark elektro in the Komando 6 and Invasion Planete style a must have!

The Tyrell Corporation - Together Alone (Clone)

Alden Tyrell is known for his elektro and nu-disco music. This side project is much more new wave influenced. The A-side is a real hit with pounding elektro beats and a pumping new wave bass line. Eerie synth lines gives the music an even more 1980's feeling. Very much like New Order and some of the best Mount Sims did. On the B-side there is a real 1980's rock track that will appeal to fans of Siouxsie and Skeletal Family... even though it is a bit more rock. Also the other track is a typical 1980's new wave rock piece. This is very much in the 1980's style but also sounding fresh due to a great production. Tip!

Five O'Clock Traffic - Aside From Dreams And Hallucincations (Djuring Phonogram / Börft)

Another great release on Börft Records from Sweden. This time it will please the fans of (minimal) elektro for sure. Low Red Center - Low Red Center (S-S Records)

Low Red Center is more of a performance group then a strict band. Their music is what all good post-punk should be about: artistic freedom. You hear the authenticity of their music straight away. You could qualify this as minimal synth but none of the clichés are there. Also they sound more warm and lighter. Think about The Dreams mixed with the Kim Ki O and you are going the right way. Accident Du Travail - Accident Du Travail (Bruit Direct Disques)

Amazing record by Julie Normal (Cradle Of Smurf, Crash Normal)  and Olivier 2mo (Cheveu). Unlike their more weird post-punk projects this record goes into a more contemporary classical music sort of style. Played on a specific kind of organ and on electronics you get hypnotizing and trance indulging music that at times is reminscent of Terry Riley ('A Rainbow In Curved Air') and sometimes a bit of Kosmische Scene (Klaus Schulze). Really something to check out!!

Monster Apparat is the new synth "super group" from Sweden with members of Kord (see his excellent recent 7" on Börft below) and Adolf Filter (no introduction needed I hope). The music is the perfect mix of these two acts: the excellent rhythms and melodies of Kord and the influence of moody touches, sounds and melodies by Adolf Filter. Enema Syringe - Mitt Livs Novell (Ufomongo / Börft)

Enema Syringe is for insiders a true cult act or even cult hero. In the 1980's he was involved in the first noise / power electronics / industrial scene. His minimalistic and crazy soundscapes are always surprising and more then excellent. This new LP is a real NEW LP. So, new songs and NO archive tracks. Das M - Ist das wirklich nötig? (
Hertzschrittmacher/Kernkrach Schallplaten)

Excellent release by Das M. His first LP on Kernkrach featured new material but this 10" consists of tracks from the tapes the artist released himself in the early 90's in very limited editions. Of course it features the cult hit "
Vergeude Nicht Deine Jahre" BUT this is not by far the best track on the record (although it is a very good one). Pieces like "Schneller Sein" and "Flohwalzer" are simply fantastic minimal elektro pop tracks with a touch of NDW and even as they are sounding happy they have a hint of melancholy all around them. A must have for fans of lo-fi DIY elektro pop!!

Ruth's Monkey - K.O.(S.)M. (Musamore Editions)

A new release on Musamore Editions and another feast. This time the music moves from up tempo elektro beats to more tranquil electronica a bit like a down tempo Dopplereffekt maybe at times. Also there is a nice mixture of industrial sounding beats in the style of Le Syndicat Electronique and some weirdness as we know it from It&My Computer. In short: a very succesful new release by this small and sympathetic label! As always strictly limited to only 100 copies... so get it now or never...

Latest release on the French Musamore quality label. This is the most dancefloor orientated release untill now but it does not aim at simple body movement. Bondage Fairies - Garbage Indiebands 7" (Lobotom Records)

Brand new 7" by Bondage Fairies with two new songs. After the first 7" and the debut cd album the band is back with more 8 bit elektro tunes and some guitar chords. The A side is more of a parody on indie bands (see the title) with some guitar pieces mixed with 8 bit noises. On the B side is the more than excellent 8 bit elektro track 'Girls Are Sick'. An absolute great appetizer for the second album!?

Ad Absurdum - Ausuferung (Treue um Treue Tonträger)

Maybe a weird thing to mix C64/Amiga chiptune minimal elektro with black metal influences, but Ad Ubsurdum manages to make a real tasty mix out of this! NoNotes - Mode (Motok)

From the obscure Dutch 80's artist ORDUC comes this new release with contemporary minimal music. This is an independent release the artist did all on his own. Nonotes is an ambient drone project with (post) industrial influences and a minimalistic character. For over 40 minutes the music takes you away on a strange psychedelic trip only to leave you wondering afterwards.
