early techno mix

On my mixcloud page I posted a dj set which I recorded a few years ago… it is a mix of early/proto techno… with music from Belgium, Germany and Spain from the late 1980’s and early 1990’s… so EBM and New Beat in different flavours… there is also one Gooiland Elektro track in it but all the rest is from the old days… enjoy!

Donderdag (Hans de Wolf) at Radio Resistencia

RR_logoNext sunday it is the last Radio Resistencia session for 2015… and a stupid coincidence… performing live is the duo Donderdag… which means Thursday… and  from January onwards the sessions will be on thursday… but still in Kapitaal!

Anyway Donderdag is a project by Hans de Wolf… maybe you remember the tape object I released with him? That went together with an the online presentation of some of his art… if you do not remember it… see here…

Donderdag is weird folk inspired experimental pop music from Utrecht… so definitely something fitting the Radio Resistencia show…

As all sessions this past year we start at 15.00 hour and finish at 18.00 hour… some records are spanned by me of course and dj Hans D.

Here is a piece of Donderdag…

new dj set / mixtape

I posted a new dj set / mixtape on my mixcloud a few days ago… and it seems some music lovers and listeners out there like it a lot… it is a mix featuring post-industrial, elektro, techno and trippy (modular) synth stuff…

This mix was recorded as part of an episode for Radio Resistencia which is narrowcasted every first monday of the month on Intergalatic FM at IFM1 from 22.00 set onwards…

Here is the mix:

Glice

Glice - LIX - ArtworkIn the end I am not a big noise fan… I do like noisy music and industrial music and sounds… but most noise is just noise to me… noise for noise sake is not my cup of tea…

But since a long time I do listen to noise music such as performed by Sonic Youth for example… this as it is not just noise… it has interesting narratives to get into and lots of dynamics and it plays around with genre definitions… well these same aspects I recognise in the debut album ‘Lix’ (it is a shamed but only available digitally for now) by Dutch noise duo Glice…

Glice did present an EP a few months ago which I enjoyed but this album is just way beyond that… the music is richer in sounds and textures and due to this much more daring and interesting… from the first seconds it grasps you and pulls you down under in creepy soundscapes and nasty noise pieces…

The opening piece “Terebinths” is a 10 minutes long ritualistic dark trip… something which will appeal to fans of old Lustmord stuff… and absolute highlight is “Flax” which is the most melodic (sort of of) and tranquil piece of the album… almost meditative but too disturbing in the end… another highlight is the bombastic “Tamarix”… which could have been on an old Cold Meat Industry record…

The 80’s and 90’s industrial influences seems to be there but the music by Glice is very much contemporary too… fitting in somewhere with the post-techno music by Kerridge for example… really an awesome release… also for non noise fans…

You can see and hear Glice live on Thursday 21st of January at the Radio Resistencia session at Kapitaal in Utrecht…

And… enjoy “Tamarix” here / below…

Assembly line

petitEurop_assemblingAlways when new records arrive from the pressing plant it takes a few days before I can start to ship records to private orders and shops. This because the records have to be assembled… sometimes it involves more work (more parts) as other times…

Right now I have quite some work to do… the Sololust and Staatseinde sleeves need to be folded… and I do this by hand… one sleeve at the time… after that I need to put them in a plastic outer sleeve and put the vinyl record also in this plastic sleeve.

The Europ Europ is another story… I made 200 small stickers by hand… one for each sleeve… so I also need to put the stickers on the sleeves… also a black inlay card I cut in the right size has to be put in the sleeve and after that the vinyl record and the silk screen printed inlay card also have to put in the plastic outer sleeve… so lots of parts have to be added before I have one ready to send out into the world…

Still… in the end the more work involved in a record the more satisfaction it gives me when I see the end result…

So… I am busy right now to get all records ready so I can start shipping soon…

Ende der Zukunft

IMG_1501Now also the artwork for the Staatseinde 7 inch is printed. As announced before this one was done on a Risograph machine… in three layers (three colours)… I think it looks great… and yes it is different as the design (as presented on the ET website)… but that is just part of the game with printing techniques like this… you never know exactly how it will turn out… it is a bit of luck, a bit of fate and a bit of going with the flow…

If all goes well “Ende der Zukunft” (as the record is entitled) will be delivered at the end of this week and I can start shipping shortly after that…

All three of the records (Staatseinde, Sololust and Europ Europ) are already numbered… I only need to fold the artwork/sleeves and put them in a pvc sleeve… so finally soon soon soon…
