Lay Llamas and Benoit Pioulard

The Italian label Backwards is among my favourite labels since they
started to release records in 2012. Control Unit and Wakinyan both delivered great albums that year through the label. Mirt is another personal favourite artist related to Backwards and the Fabrio Orsi album Endless Autumn is equally amazing… too bad it is only available on cd. And… also check out the Father Murphy 10″ while you dig into this…

layllamasAnyway… recently Backwards released some new records which are truly nice… One of them is the re-issue of the first Lay Llamas album… released on 2012 on tape. This album is the perfect record for this summer… trippy and spacey tunes that never over the edge psychedelic… it is quite relaxing music which works well while hiding in the shadows on a hot day… think some sort of Sun Ra Arkestra but not jazzy… if this makes any sense…

The other record is also a sort of re-issue… as the two songs on the Benoit Pioulard 7 inch are basically from 2000-2001. So from even before his debut release. For this new release the tracks are re-recorded. These two tracks are both typical for the artist as well as a great introduction to his work… The A side is dreamy song… a bit in between indie-pop and experimental folk while the B side is an ambient soundscape… very tranquil and soothing… and these two “styles” are basically which Benoit Pioulard works around in his music today…

A few copies of both records are available at the ET webshop… already available at the discogs shop and soon also through the new ET website/webshop…

Here is the B side of the Benoit Pioulard 7 inch…

And here is one piece by Lay Llamas…

dj M. – Lesson#64

There is a new mixtape online now… this one is like a dark meditation as somebody else put it… even though I myself think it is not that dark… the sounds range from ritual soundscapes to experimental folklore influenced pieces to psychedelic movements… it features music from Paul Kelday, Namenlosigkeit, Psykopharmaka, Brannten Schnuere, Gryke Pyje and many more…

Ocean Floor and Father Murphy

Recently I added the absolute great releases by Belgian label B.A.A.D.M. to the webshop… especially the Frederik Croene record is one I simply love… it is a piece of dark and haunting organ music…

oceanfloor_cvrIn that vein I have some other records waiting to go online… one of them is by Ocean Floor… a project from Bristol… the “Jupiter” album was released on tape first and is now available on vinyl… the music on the album is lighter and less dark as the Frederik Croene… mostly due to fact no church organ was used but an harmonium… which is a small chamber size organ… “Jupiter” is a blending of electronic and the sound of the harmonium… resulting in spacious sound tapestries… it is psychedelic and trippy in the same way as the krautrock/kosmische scene music by (early) Tangerine Dream… and yes the  influence of this legendary band is very clear… but still “Jupiter” is an amazing album…

Next to that I have some copies of the new 10″ by Father Murphy… an Italian band which has been making music for over a decade… and I must admit that I only came across them recently on the “Nostra Signora delle Tenebre” compilation by Backwards… on which their piece was one of the highlights…

fathermurphy_cvrNow there is this new 10″… with music which is reminiscent of early Coil in some way… mixed with some elements of Duhkha/Bex… so expect some post-industrial music hinting at various styles and genres… dark occult psychedelic stuff… quite unique… and both tracks are a true listening experience…

Here is one piece by Ocean Floor…

And here is one of the two pieces from the Father Murphy 10″…

Lend Me Your Underbelly

lendmeyourunderbellySince some years a part of my focus for Enfant Terrible is on contemporary Dutch music… the true starting point of this was of course the “Kamp Holland” 2LP compilation… and ever since then I am on the look out for more interesting new stuff from my own country which also fits my musical taste and styles for ET…

Recently I came across Lend Me Your Underbelly… a project from Utrecht… the city I started Enfant Terrible and I lived for a long time… Lend Me Your Underbelly is a true DIY project… releasing his own music on his own label Epigenetic Records… a second album is on its way but for now there is a 7″ and a 2LP… both dating from 2013…

The 2LP “Giant Tadpoles Among Us” is a must have for fans of lo-fi psychedelic pop music… if you like stuff from Fonal, Morc and Vrystaete this is for you… the music is mostly based on guitar tunes added with electronics… in a way the recordings sound like rehearsal recordings… but I mean this in a positive way… the intimate sound and feeling of these recordings make up for a super nice listening experience…

And for the locals… Lend Me Your Underbelly will perform live at Radio Resistencia on  the 17th of May… for now you can order the album here… and here is my absolute favourite piece form the album…
