RX-101 and (not so) slow acid

I am a long time fan of Suction Records from Canada… it is even among the labels through which I started to listen to elektro music… sort of recently RX-101 was discovered by the label boss and he started releasing the music of this Dutch 1990’s project…

For me this artist was totally new… it fits the IDM stuff Suction already released perfectly… it times it sounds very Rephlex like… and the name is cool… being taken from the Roland SH-101 synth…

Already four 12″ EP’s were released… the first two in 2016 and last year two more came out… one a bit IDM inspired and with some synth stuff… the other a great EP filled with acid trax…

The first two EP’s are compiled on a CD and the second two on another CD… ant through this CD is discovered I  was playing the acid 12″ too slow… I played it at 33 RPM all the time since it arrived… and it sounded wicked… especially the slow(er) stuff… but when I played the CD I discovered the tracks were faster… and I checked the sleeve of the 12″… it said quit big 45 RPM… so well… I think I stick to the slower speed anyway as the tracks sound so great that way…

most rpm 2015

Nico_MarbleIndexThere are always one or two artists each year who get the most plays here at ET HQ… last year this was for sure Nico with Ben Frost as runner-up…

Nico… well what is there to say except that you need to experience her music by submerging yourself in her simply unique and outstanding music… “The End” has for years been a record returning on my record player… last year both “The Marble Index” (1968) and “Desertshore” (1970) found its ways (again) into my life…

benfrost_auroraNext to Nico I have been playing a lot of Ben Frost music… I think mostly “Aurora” (2014) but also some of his other works… in an age where it is hard to come up with original music Ben Frost stands apart… album after album his sound evolves (and sometimes changes a bit) and becomes more intense, more complex and more daring… “Aurora” really gripped me this year with its perfect mix between ambient, industrial, idm and noise… I am very curious what this musician will serve us next… hopefully something new is come this year…

Tobias Bernstrup and Tindersticks

Lots of things are being imagined and planned for 2015… but these first few days of the year my focus has been mostly on the new Tobias Bernstrup album which is going to the pressing plant soon. Next to that I am listening to some records old and new…

Tobias_RomanticismTobias Bernstrup… of course a familiar name for those who know my label… his next album is called ‘Romanticism‘ and will come in a vinyl edition (album plus 12 inch) in collaboration with Tobias’s his own Tonight Records. The audio master has been checked and now we are finalising the last few changes to the artwork… so all will be ready for the pressing plant soon…

tindersticks_ypresAlso I ordered the Tindersticks album ‘Ypres’ from last year… one of those records I forgot to order when it came out… this is an album the band did for the World War I museum in Ypres in Belgium. What you get served is beautiful soundscapes… a bit of modern classical music… rather moody (of course I would like to add)… this could also serve as soundtrack to a WOI film for sure… it has the tension and mood fitting perfectly… although military sounds pop up in the background from time to time the music is all about an atmospheric music experience and not at feeding you with explicit military sounds and music as is often done in WOI (and II) inspired “pop music”… but as said… this is more modern classical music as pop music anyway…
