printing record sleeves – Unruhe compilation

Today I finished the sleeve for the second upcoming release: the “Unruhe” compilation on Gooiland Elektro… I printed this one together with the Kapitaal crazies and we had lots of fun in the process…

Kapitaal is temporarily at the Snor Fabriek in Utrecht… an old empty factory/workspace… which is quite cold… so cold the ink was not very liquid and cleaning the screen was also a thingy as there was no high pressure sprayer… but we managed… in the end…

Now one more big project awaits… the sleeve for the Brannten Schnüre album… more on this soon…

Printing time (again)

This weekend I was again at Kapitaal in Utrecht printing the artwork for the upcoming releases… I finished two of the three sleeves I need to do…

antlersmulm_cvr_uncutFirst I printed the Antlers Mulm 7 inch sleeve… this one was a three color / layer design for risograph… the funny thing with doing riso prints is that  all copies are different… as you print layer for layer and the paper feed is not very stable you can imagine little differences in each print… as in that the layers are never super thigh on top of each other… but that is all part of the charm… and the colours of course… they look so old fashioned… absolutely lovely! I printed on a yellowish bookstyle kind of paper… adding even more charm to the final result…

zarkoffikonal_cvr_printedThe other print I did this weekend was for the Zarkoff & Ikonal 12″ EP on Gooiland Elektro… this was the usual silkscreen printing job I do since several records in this series… so cardboard sleeves and double sided printed… which is quite a lot of work… but they look really good I think… rather industrial…

Next weekend I return to Kapitaal for the last time to print there… at least at the current location… they are currently looking for a new place and plan to re-open soon at a new location… but I will print the TWINS mini album artwork at the current place… this will be a silkscreen printed sleeve in two different editions… same style but with different photography… so 125 copies with one design and 125 copies with another design… I look forward to printing this one… very curious how these will turn out…

Homework

insertET044Gooiland23This weekend I finished the insert for the upcoming Gooiland Elektro compilation “Noblesse Oblige”… next to the silk screen printed sleeve this compilation includes an insert… this insert is printed on a risograph machine and I finished it by stamping it by hand…

Now all is finished and the waiting is for the vinyls… then some assembling needs to be done and then I can ship this one out… I expect I can start shipping at the end of March…

In my recent mixtape / dj set two tracks from this record are included… to kill time while waiting…

Printed matters

This weekend I have been printing the art prints for the upcoming Neurobit record on Vrystaete and the sleeves for the new Gooiland Elektro compilation… both records are expected late March…

The art prints for the Neurobit record are designed by Sasj and are geometric patterns… originally the design was intended to have 3 layers but in the end I decided to only go for 2 layers… less is more and as the third layer was a big square with patterns in it this would have been quite hard to do with silk screen printing…

The design is printed in three color variations… so 50 prints of each variation… see above… when (pre)ordering the record you can state your wish for a specific color combination…

As always these prints where done at the printing facilities of Kapitaal in Utrecht…

A post with photos of the Gooiland Elekro sleeves will follow in the next days…

Xerox

IMG_2162When it comes to old fashioned printing techniques your easily think of silk screen printing and risograph printing for example… but doing some old school copying on an Xerox machine fits nowadays in the same category… at least for me…

While the artwork for the upcoming Europ Europ 7 inch is done by silk screen printing (see below) and the Staatseinde is done with a Risograph machine the Sololust artwork is coming out of a Xerox machine…

Well… you just have to love the grainy quality of it all… so the design of the sleeve was done in away to make this even more evident… and for an extra touch the inside of the sleeve is also xeroxed… the end result is a trashy black and greyish sleeve not only referring to the (post-) punk era and DIY aesthetics but being all of that… and maybe more…

Now only the Staatseinde sleeve has to be done… and then you can enjoy these 7″s with fitting artwork (design and printing technique!) at home…

Printing time again

Gooiland_Elektro_logo_whiteEven though the three new Gooiland Elektro releases by FOQL, Monocorpse and FFFC are delayed it does not mean we are not working on them… so we have started to print the sleeves, and this printing job will be finished next week…

As announced the looks of the Gooiland series have been revised and the sleeves are now hand printed by silk screen printing by myself with the help of the printing chief of Kapitaal

Below a first impression of the front and the backside of the sleeves (click to enlarge)…
