Monocorpse – Cease To Exist 12″ EP

Expected before summer… I think about early/mid July is a new EP by Monocorpse on Gooiland Elektro… this Dutch project blends (post-)techno, ritual and industrial sounds into spine chilling soundtracks for occult nighttime sessions…

While the first EP “Ceremonie Caille” was thematically centred around voodoo… this new EP stays closer to home while taking its theme from The Family… and in that line the first video was edited… for the truly interested I do not need to explain this video footage and all… and for the non-informed it is a nice starting point to get into this record and the theme behind it…

Baldruin

baldruin_miniTwo weeks ago at the Diamantener Oberhof concert I got the latest Baldruin release. Baldruin is the solo project by one of the musicians from Diamantener Oberhof. Until now several releases are out on tape and the first vinyl is also in production…

The latest release is the tape release Miniaturen on A Giant Fern. As the title might suggest this tape is filled with little pieces of music… the longest being just about two and a half minute and the shortest being just under forty five seconds…

These pieces are playful dreamy ambient music composed with electronics and all kinds of acoustic instruments… just like they are used in the Diamantener Oberhof context… only Baldruin does not have the folklore touch…

I could imagine these short little pieces of music would fit perfectly as soundtrack for film and theatre scenes for example… but on their own they are as enjoyable as well… and that is an understatement!

Lost Highway

losthighwayOne of my all time favourite soundtracks is the one for ‘Lost Highway’. This as it is both as soundtrack and as a record just perfect. The soundtrack has a true narrative on its own which does not need any images… and for the film it enriches the experience in an incredible way…

The mix between songs and more traditional soundtrack pieces really works well… despite the variety of music ranging from industrial to pop to cool jazz and metal it is a very cohesive record which takes you on a dark and moody trip… and there are some amazing tracks on it… like the one by Smashing Pumpkins and “Apple Of Sodom” is by far the best thing Marilyn Manson ever did…

For the ‘Exploitation’ soundtrack for the Edwin Brienen film with the same title I produced I was heavily influenced and inspired by the ‘Lost Highway’ soundtrack… the decision to use more song based tracks mixed with more abstract pieces for example was based on listened a lot to the soundtrack for the David Lynch film… and also the use a variety of styles and genres I used as it worked so well on this famous soundtrack…

So in the end I created a second favourite soundtrack for myself by realising the ‘Exploitation’ soundtrack… let’s see if my production will become such a collector piece as ‘Lost Highway’ is on vinyl…
